UPDATE: Facebook Usage statistics by country July 2009
In 2007 Facebook grew considerably and I thought it was worth publishing the latest Facebook usage statistics that I have seen. (Note these are Facebook usage statistics for the whole world not just the UK - this post has been updated and now features the usage stats published in Jan 2008, source Facebook).
Facebook's latest usage statistics
- Facebook now has more than 63 million active users.
- Facebook has seen an average of 250,000 new registrations per day since Jan. 2007, with an average of 3% weekly growth since Jan. 2007.
- Facebook active users are doubling every 6 months
- Facebook gets more than 65 billion page views per month and more than half of active users return daily
- According to comScore people spend an average of 20 minutes on Facebook every day(comScore)
Facebook latest country statistics
- Facebook is the sixth-most trafficked site in the United States (comScore)
- Canada has the most Facebook users outside of the United States, with more than 7 million active users
- The U.K. is Facebook's third largest country with more than 7 million active users
- Remaining top 10 countries in order of active Facebook users (outside of the U.S., Canada and UK): Australia, Turkey, Sweden, Norway, South Africa, France, Hong Kong
Facebook latest applications statistics
- Facebook is now the number one photo sharing application on the Web (comScore)
- Facebooks photo application draws more than twice as much traffic as the next three sites combined (comScore)
- More than 14 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day
- More than 6 million active user groups
- Over 12,000 Facebook applications have been built on Facebook Platform
- 140 new Facebook applications are added per day
- More than 95% of Facebook members have used at least one application built on Facebook Platform
Latest Facebook Fan Page statistics
I have written about Facebook Fan Pages (and put together a list if the biggest Facebook Fan Pages) here: http://www.nickburcher.com/2008/05/list-of-largest-facebook-fan-pages-with.html
Facebook latest group statistics
- Facebook do not publish statistics for the largest / biggest groups, but I have written about these in the past:
http://www.nickburcher.com/2007/11/list-of-largest-facebook-groups-part.html
http://www.nickburcher.com/2007/10/biggest-largest-groups-on-facebook.html
Since writing about the largest groups on Facebook, the only challenger to the Guinness Record group seems to be the Six Degrees of Seperation group which has over 4 million members. (This is noted in the comments of the second post I wrote about the largest / biggest groups on Facebook.)

Thanks this really helped me learn statisics on facebook. =]
Hey Anonymous....
Thanks...that comment really helped me learn how idiotic people can be.
I can't believe how much they have grown. Are there any more specific statistics like the amount of bandwidth facebook provides daily and projections that facebook makes about its growth and markets it is pursuing. Are these pursuits successful. Does Facebook understand which direction they are being supported or are their efforts pursuing markets which aren't supporting them. In which way does Facebook follow markets. so many questions. thanks for the article.
I am wondering where you sourced the first bulleted list of stats on Facebook growth in this blog post?
-Facebook now has more than 63 million active users.
Obviously the last stat is comScore, but I am wondering as to the sources of the rest.
Thanks
The stats actually came from Facebook. I think I updated it in Feb /
Mar in another post.
Over the next few weeks I will try and write an up to date version -
hopefully including stats on the latest foreign language versions too.
I found that post, and visited the current facebook stats-- Do you have any thoughts on why they have removed the "hard number" growth stats from their main site?
BEFORE:
- Facebook now has more than 67 million active users.
NOW:
* More than 80 million active users
* Facebook is the 6th most-trafficked website in the world (comScore)
* Facebook is the 2nd most-trafficked social media site in the world (comScore)
Have had a look and you are right, they have removed them. Don't know why - intriguing!
I'll have another look and see if I can work out another way of finding the latest stats.
I have now found that you can use the Facebook planning tool to get user stats.
go to http://www.facebook.com/ads/create and input your own URL, then on the next page the # of users in the upper right hand corner will auto update as you select different demographic criteria.
Good knowledge - I'm going to play with this and publish my findings on a later post.
Thanks for the tip!
Nick
