50 largest Facebook Fan Pages - statistics at the first anniversary of the launch of Facebook Fan Pages

New - Top 30 Facebook Fan Pages - January 2010 here

I wrote about the launch of Facebook Fan Pages and in the year since launch they have grown enormously. There have been some interesting stories as Fan Page usage has developed - Michael Phelps gaining a million fans in a few days, Red Box Blue streaming a live gig through their fan page, Barack Obama moving his campaign focus from Facebook Groups ('One Million For Obama' etc) to the Barack Obama Fan Page which is now by far the biggest and the BBC tracking down the founder of the Chris Moyles page and working with them to produce something better.

I analysed the largest Facebook Fan Pages in May and it is interesting to see how much Fan Pages have grown in popularity since then. In May no Fan Page had more than a million fans and Barack Obama was the only person with more than 500,000 Facebook Fans. The 5 most popular Fan Pages after Barack Obama's Fan Page are now all different and it is interesting to see the extent to the list of the largest Fan Pages is dominated by the entertainment category - with music and film Fan Pages prevalent.

Here is the latest list of the largest Facebook Fan Pages:

Whilst it is difficult to work out just how many Facebook Fan Pages there are, the top 50 Facebook Fan Pages combined have over 30 million fans. Assuming there is a long tail in play, then it is clear that Facebook Fan Pages have been embraced by the Facebook community and will continue to grow (though it will be interesting to see what happens to the Obama / McCain pages after Nov 4th!)
