Global Broadband statistics - connections still increasing in all regions

73% of British people now "say broadband [is] as essential as water." In more inaccessible parts of the world people like Captain Alejandro Fernández and the crew of the Tyco Resolute are going to great lengths to connect populations to cheap, fast broadband and despite the economic slowdown consumers across the world are showing a continued desire to be plugged into high speed internet.

Indeed one of the key drivers behind internet development has been the increase in broadband penetration and new broadband statistics from the Broadband Forum show continued growth in number of global broadband connections:

Broadband penetration is therefore still increasing, with noteworthy increases in Eastern Europe (29.4% in 12 months), Latin America (31.4% in 12 months) and South / East Asia (25.5% in 12 months) - though broadband is also showing healthy increases in Western Europe, APAC and North America.

Easy to forget that in some areas the internet revolution is only just beginning and the continued growth of broadband facilitates ever more innovative ad formats, greater use of online streaming, increased opportunity for sharing / self-publishing / social networking - all the while opening up new markets / removing global boundaries and developing new opportunities for internet marketing along the way.
