A bit silly, but another demonstration of Star Wars re-interpreted through social media - the entirety of Star Wars A New Hope contained in one Facebook thread:
Facebook Pages seem to be growing faster than ever. Partly a derivative of the various changes implemented in recent months ('Become A Fan Of' evolving to 'Like' , Open Graph activation, the ability to take over / merge Pages and Facebook's linking Pages to Profile interests) and partly down to Page holders giving a greater focus on Facebook Fan numbers (promoted on TV etc.)
I have previously looked at the most popular Facebook Fan Pages (in May 2008, November 2008, June 2009 and January 2010) and Facebook Page fan numbers have increased significantly since then.
At the end of 2008 only Barack Obama and Michael Phelps had more than 1 million fans. by the beginning of 2010 the Michael Jackson page was the only Page in excess of 10 million, but as you can see from the list below these numbers are small fry compared to the number of Facebook Fans that Facebook Pages now have (especially Texas Hold'em Poker which has managed to gain 20 million fans since the beginning of the year!) The quirky pages like (Pizza or remembering something funny) are still popular but 'Music' is the only Community page now in the top 30 Facebook Pages:
Here are the top 30 Facebook Fan Pages by number of fans (including URL):
2009 may have been the year of the advertiser funded flashmob, but the concept is still going - most recently in Paris where La Mutuelle Générale created an event using 300 dancers in front of Notre Dame cathedral. (The theory still seeming to be 'event drives social conversation which drives awareness'?)
Using the music of Billy Idol, dancers were gathered for a choreographed routine, before dispersing back into the Paris streets. As an added extra Mia Frye was on hand to supervise and join in with the finale.
X Factor Compactor lets internet users take elements from the faces of the 4 X Factor judges and mash them all together.
Under the description 'Wreak facial havoc on the real stars of your favourite aspiration-baiting plebqueller' [?], the eyes, noses, heads and mouths of Cheryl, Simon, Louis and Dannii can all be mashed together to produce some startling new creations! Users can then share their X Factor Compactor face mashups through Facebook etc.

All very silly, but an easy and effective way of driving page views and interaction - I'm sure we'll see site traffic for The Poke increase over coming days.
Viral content is rarely the stuff of highbrow intellectualism. The most successful viral content tends to be more about throwaway fun and the X Factor compactor is a nice example of this. Expect to be seeing it everywhere by this time next week!
To promote the Toyota Auris Hybrid Synergy Drive, a 3D projection mapping event was held in Shoreditch (London) on 22 September 2010. The resulting Toyota Auris film shows the 'story of a car which recycles energy as it drives':
Toyota Auris Hybrid synergy 3D projection mapping video
A lot went into this Toyota Auris 3D event - '7 projectors. 28,000,000 pixels of texture. And 3,670 cups of tea (!)' An official making of video that shows how the 3D projection mapping and the Toyota Auris Hybrid were brought to life can be seen here:

Another cool piece of 3D projection mapping and an interesting way of bringing the Toyota Auris Hybrid to life!
Yeo Valley hit Twitter Trending topics after showing the 'Yeo Valley Rap' TV ad as the first ad in the X-Factor's first break. The Yeo Valley Rap is on YouTube here:
For advertisers, this is about Big Seed marketing rather than targeting 'Influencers.' Yeo Valley used broadcast TV to reach a large, primetime audience and saw the conversation explode as a result. This wasn't the work of a Two-Step / Special Connector, this was the effect of 1+1+1+1+1 etc - a full on broadcast push that saw the content discussed on a large scale within minutes of ithe Yeo Valley Rap airing.
Yeo Valley Rap on Twitter Trending Topics (number 2 globally)
Yeo Valley Rap on Twitter Trending Topics (number 1 in London)
This is more in line with the ideas of Duncan Watts, rather than Malcolm Gladwell. In a Fast Company article entitled 'Is The Tipping Point Toast?' Watts disagrees with the 'Law Of The Few' and Influentials theory.
The article concludes: 'The ultimate irony of Watts's research is that, if you really buy it, the most effective way to pitch your idea is ... mass marketing. And that is precisely what the wizards of Madison Avenue, presiding over our zillion-channel microniche market, have rejected as obsolete.'
The Yeo Valley Rap is great content (if nothing else it provokes a reaction), was positioned in an ad break with a huge audience and the Yeo Valley Rap got people talking. Normally Twitter is dominated by X Factor discussion of contestants and performances, tonight the most tweeted part of the show seems to be the first ad break - and the Yeo Valley Rap!
Aviva have launched the 'You Are The Big Picture' global campaign which aims to demonstrate Aviva's commitment to putting customers at the heart of its business. Activity in London, Warsaw, Paris and Singapore (with Delhi and Mumbai to follow next month) involves a combination of giant outdoor and Facebook to bring the message to life.

Here is a time lapse of London's Sea Containers House being wrapped by the Aviva 'You Are The Big Picture Campaign':
- Furthermore, through an Aviva 'You Are The Big Picture' Facebook app (here), Facebook users around the world have the chance to have their photo projected onto one of the buildings in the six participating cities - and for the first 250,000 photos uploaded by members of the public, Aviva will donate £1 per image to Save the Children as part of its global Street to School programme.

Google Goggles is now on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS as part of the Google iPhone app. Using visual search technology Google Goggles has been on Android for a while, but is now available to iPhone users from the iTunes App Store.
Very cool app and if you don't know what Google Goggles does then the video below will tell you more!
I always like seeing tactical / topical newspaper ads. Liking this Ryder Cup effort from the country of Wales in today's newspaper Sports sections (!):
