Google Analytics in real life

Getting people to an e-commerce site is one thing, getting them to buy is another.  Consumers are still faced with hurdles when it comes to online shopping - having to remember login details and passwords, entering strange letters into captchas, negotiating around complicated delivery charges and so on.

Analytics packages can help identify the barriers to conversion and to bring this to life Google Analytics have created a video around what buying a loaf of bread in the real world would be like if e-commerce principles were applied.  It's a bit over the top, but makes the point nicely!

Bacardi Dragonberry - Rotterdam projection with real time party pictures

For the introduction of new drink Bacardi Dragonberry, on Saturday October 15 2011 Bacardi projected a giant dragon onto the White House on the quay in Rotterdam Gelderland.
Real time photos were then added to the mix, so not only was the Dragon parading on the side of the building, it was also spitting out photos of drinkers who had just been photographed at a bar / cafe nearby!

The Bacardi Dragonberry real time projection video shows more:

This is an interesting quirk on an architectural mapping projection - not just displaying the ad creative, but offering a showcase for real people too.

TopShop SCVNGR location based activity

What I call Real World Optimisation is becoming more popular and it is interesting to see retail venues experimenting with location based mobile applications.  FourSquare Specials have been the most prominent examples to date, but in the UK TopShop are working with SCVNGR to offer points / exclusive TopShop rewards for students who use SCVNGR and play the 'fun challenges in store.'

To date there have been 1,410 challenges completed and 93,662 points acquired - an interesting way of turning a real world retail experience into a digital / social experience.  The challenge for all this type of activity is obviously scale, but these sort of initiatives are starting to highlight the potential to plug mobile and social into the real world, especially around retail.
